Beyond the big supermarkets, Jávea keeps a strong tradition of independent food shops — butchers, bakeries, fishmongers and wine merchants, several of them family-run for generations. The Saturday market in the old town and the daily mercado are the best places for local produce and the prized Jávea raisins.
